Village Hall Planters
The first public art project was the completion of the two mosaic planters in front of Village Hall. A workshop was facilitated by Rob Moriarty and community members discussed what should be included in the design to best represent our town. Rob Moriarty created the planters, and they were installed at Village Hall in the fall of 2004. Created as a demonstration of the possibilities while a new Art & Culture Commission was being proposed in 2004. The founding members of the new
village Commission who helped make these artworks were Alice Chin, educator and business owner, Mona Parry, educator and artist; Bev Raddle, student; Randy Vick, professor of art therapy; Mary Carnahan, artist and businesswoman; Rob Moriarty, educator and artist; and Emily Christian, artist and businesswoman. These planters are based on a simple idea: take something functional, then make people stop and smile when they walk by.
